Sr. Miriam Lent, OP, formerly known as Sr. Marie Cabrini, a devoted member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt for 71 years, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 93.

Sr. Miriam was born on May 10, 1932, in New York, the daughter of Francis and Agnes Smith Lent. She entered religious life on September 11, 1949, from St. Margaret of Cortona Parish in the Bronx, NY, and professed her final vows on December 30, 1954.

From an early age, Sr. Miriam Lent felt a calling to serve others through education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Dominican University and went on to receive a Masters Degree in Developmental Remedial Reading from City College, equipping herself to make a profound impact on the lives of students at every stage of their learning.

Her teaching ministry spanned more than five decades and touched both elementary and

secondary students across many schools. She began her journey at St. Dominic’s School (Blauvelt, NY) in 1952 and went on to teach at St. Margaret’s School (Pearl River, NY), Holy Cross School (Bronx, NY), St. Catharine (Blauvelt, NY), St. Anselm (Bronx, NY), St. Nicholas of Tolentine (Bronx, NY), Cardinal Spellman High School (Bronx, NY), Archbishop Stepinac High School (White Plains, NY), St. Catherine (Glen Rock, NJ) and Immaculate Conception (NJ), where she served as Director of Religious Education. Later, she continued at DePaul High School (Wayne, NJ) and returned to St. Catharine (Blauvelt, NY) in multiple roles, including volunteer service in Religious Education and clerical work. At every stop, Sr. Miriam brought dedication and a gentle, caring spirit that left an indelible mark on students and colleagues alike.

Sr. Miriam was much more than a teacher. She was a mentor, a friend, and a source of comfort to countless students. She often stayed after school to help children, always with warmth and her characteristic rosy cheeks. Her quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and dedication to nurturing young minds reflected the depth of her faith and the beauty of her character.

Those who knew Sr. Miriam remember her as a gentle soul whose life was devoted to service and education. Her legacy lives on in the students she guided, the communities she strengthened, and the countless hearts she touched with her generosity and grace.

In addition to her religious family, Sr. Miriam was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Agnes Lent, sister Betty Casale, and brother Frank Lent. She is survived by her sisters Ann Collins, Eileen Casey, brother John Lent and her large extended family.
