In Memoriam - Sister Catherine Jerome Farrington, OP


Sister Catherine Jerome Farrington, OP, formerly Peggy Ann Farrington, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York for the past 58 years, died on March 20, 2016 in St. Martin de Porres Community at St. Dominic’s Convent, Blauvelt. She was 81 years of age.

​Sister “C.J.” was born to Christopher Farrington and Katherine Coffey on July 29, 1934 in the Bronx, New York.  She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 8, 1957 from Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Bronx, NY.  She received the Dominican habit on June 19, 1958, professed her first vows on June 20, 1959 and final vows on July 1, 1965.

Sister received the BS in Education from Dominican College, Orangeburg, NY. Sister Catherine Jerome devoted thirty-four years of her ministry to the care and education of the children of St. Dominic’s Home in Blauvelt.  She served as cottage mother for many years, first with the youngest girls and later with the older girls. Sister also served in other capacities at Saint Dominic’s Home including as a teacher aide in St. Dominic’s School. After her retirement from St. Dominic’s Home, Sr. CJ provided support services for senior sisters residing at the motherhouse.

In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Catherine Jerome is survived by her nieces, Connie Jean Harmon and Kelly Christine McMahon and the many alumnae of St. Dominic’s Home for whom she cared so lovingly.  Sister was predeceased by her brother, Jerome Farrington.
