Sixth Sunday of Easter

Acts 15:1-32, 22-29

Psalms:67:2-3, 5, 6, 8

Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23

John 14:23-29

We have been blessed with a vocation no less than that given to the Apostles - to preach the word of God by living the word of God. In Acts, Barnabus and Paul, Judas, and Silas were sent by the spirit to convey God's love, share the message and life of Jesus, and bring the peace Jesus wants for all humankind.

The first word spoken by Jesus to the Apostles on Easter Sunday night was "peace." Our brother Thomas tells us that peace is "the tranquility of order," an order which is founded in justice and charity.

As disciples, we must have peace within ourselves and treat others so that they have the peace to which they are entitled.

John records one of Jesus's most hopeful messages. We are not alone in our desire to live the way God wants us to live, so that we will help ourselves and others see the glory of God spoken of in the book of Revelation.

God promises us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will help us in all things - living out the commandments of the Beatitudes and understanding the parables and sermons. The Holy Spirit will help us love ourselves and others as God meant us to love.

I believe that when we stand before God on the day we take our last breath on earth and our first in eternity, God will ask us two questions: "Did you love? Were you loved?" God helps us answer both questions with a yes.

The Holy Spirit graces us so that we can follow in the way God wants, which is for our ultimate good and that of others.

Dear God, may we love you more than yesterday but less than tomorrow.
