SISTER MARY A. DOWER.O.P., also known as Sister Molly, formerly Sister Cyril, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 78 years, died on February 8, 2023 in St. Martin De Porres Community at the Motherhouse in Blauvelt, N.Y. She was 97 years of age.
Sister Molly was born to William and Mary Agnes (Lane) Dower in Manhattan, New York, and entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on January 21, 1945 from St. Gregory the Great Parish in New York City.
Sister held the BA in Liberal Arts from Manhattan College,
Bronx, N.Y., and the MS in History from St. Rose College, Albany, N.Y.
Sister Molly’s many years in ministry were spent in the field of education and finance. Sister taught in the following schools: St. Dominic’s School in Blauvelt (1947-1948), in the Bronx at Holy Spirit School (1948-1954), St. Anselm’s School (1954-1955 and 1960-1967), Immaculate Conception School (1955-1960) Amenia N.Y., and St. Benedict’s School (1967-1968). Sister also taught at Dominican College, Orangeburg, N.Y. (1968-1969), served in the College as Business Manager (1969-1980), and Director of Fiscal Affairs (1980-1985). She ministered at St. Dominic’s Home (1985-2001) and in Community Services at the Motherhouse (2001-2012), as well as servings as a companion for the Spirit Alive Program in Sparkill, N.Y.
In addition to her religious congregation, Sister Molly is survived by several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary, her sisters, Nancy Dower and Terry Nagle, her brother, Aeneas, her niece, Jean Nagle, and her cousin, Reverend Patrick Carroll.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will take place in St. Dominic’s Convent Cemetery
Arrangements have been made by Hannemann Funeral Home, Nyack, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York.
