Sister Virginia Kissack formerly Sr. Walter Marie, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 63 years died on Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Nyack Hospital. Sr. Virginia was 84 years of age.
Sr. Virginia was born to Walter Kissack and Veronica Grimes on November 21, 1928 in New York. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 8, 1950 from St. Joan of Arc Parish, Jackson Heights, New York.
Sister received the Dominican habit on September 5, 1951, professed first vows on September 5, 1952 and final vows on September 6, 1955.
Sister held a BS in Elementary Education from Fordham University, an MLS in Library Science from St. John's University, an MS in Elementary Curriculum from Hunter College and an MBA in Finance from Long Island University.
Sr. Virginia Kissack's many years of ministry were devoted to education and administration. She taught in the following schools; St. Dominic School , Blauvelt, New York 1952-53; St. Phillip and James School, Bronx, NY 1953-57; St. Paul School, Daytona, Florida,1957-64; Our Saviour School, Bronx, NY 1964-71. She ministered as Librarian at Dominican College, Blauvelt, NY 1971-79; Treasurer of St. Dominic's Convent, Blauvelt, NY, 1979-87; Treasurer of Dominican Sisters of Sick. Poor, Ossining, NY 1987-93; Motherhouse Administrator, St. Dominic Convent, Blauvelt, 1993-97; Volunteer Services, Tampa, Florida 1997-2007. Volunteer Services, St. Dominic Convent, Blauvelt, NY 2007- present.
Sister also served on the following Trustee Boards: St. Dominic's Horne 1979-87; Dominican College, 79-87; Ministry Trust Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, 1990-94; Ministry Trust Dominican Sisters of Hope 93. ​ In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Virginia is survived by her sister Monica Pannullo, her brother-in-law Anthony Pannullo, her nieces Virginia 0' Shea, and Susan Pannullo, and a grand-nephew Brenden O'Shea.
