This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Self-Care.
“Let my teaching fall like rain, and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.”
-Deuteronomy 32:2
The spring season is often a precious reminder that we all can have a fresh start and that God is committed to making all things new.
As temperatures begin to rise and the flowers begin to sprout, it is essential to remind ourselves of what this season means and how we can use it to grow by giving ourselves a spiritual spring cleaning.
If you are looking to do a spring cleaning this spring season, consider doing a spiritual spring cleaning. Doing so will be much more impactful on your self-care than any cleaning of your home will ever be.
To complete a spiritual spring cleaning, reflect on the following questions.
What should I remove from my life? Just like when we go through our closets to see what clothes are unworn or out of season, we sometimes need to review our internal wardrobe and habits, both good and bad, and any past sins. After doing so, we all are given the opportunity to repent, seek forgiveness, and ultimately get a new start that we need.
What can I give away to those in need? Many of us often drop off donation boxes to those in need after a spring cleaning with the hope of our former goods bringing joy to others. When doing a spiritual spring cleaning, consider finding someone in your life that can benefit from being your prayer partner or someone in need that you can help strengthen their faith.
How can I strengthen my faith? A big part of spring cleaning is not only looking at what you can remove from your life but what you can revamp and repair. Sometimes, our faith can need a little bit of reorganizing to strengthen it. However you choose to enhance your faith, whether it’s attending church more frequently, reading daily scripture, or joining a prayer group, make an effort to do so during your spiritual spring cleaning. You’ll be thankful that you did!
