This week's "Embracing Faith" article, we will focus on Embracing Faith through Inspiration.
Over the weekend, universities and colleges across the country hosted graduation ceremonies.
At these events, graduates were honored, achievements were celebrated, and attendees listened to speeches about gratitude, memories, opportunities, encouragement, and inspiration.
In a packed arena at the Westchester County Center, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, delivered the Dominican College Commencement Address.
During his Address, Cardinal Dolan shared how the Class of 2019 inspired him and were his “classmates” and “professors,” teaching him about the importance of education, community, tradition, purpose, and giving.
In a world full of social media, video games, and other distractions, education can sometimes be less of a priority for our youth, and that is why those who choose to pursue it are inspiring.
“You chose school, you chose learning, you chose education, you chose college, and I thank you for that. God’s most profound natural gift to us is our mind,” said Cardinal Dolan.
At the end of Commencement, Sister Mary Ann Collins, OP, of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, delivered a Benediction which ended the event on a high and inspiring note.
"Loving God, we go forth from this Commencement Ceremony with great gratitude and pride in numerous noteworthy accomplishments. We pray that God’s blessings follow you, Graduates of 2019, as you find new journeys to travel…
May hope be a light within you that you carry into each new day. Go forth now, and be the Dominican Difference needed in our world today. Amen."
