This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Giving.

Embracing Faith Through Giving

On Friday, September 27th, several Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, Dominican College students, staff, and faculty gathered together for the opening, ribbon-cutting, and blessing of the Sister Catherine Howard Food Pantry.

Located in Sullivan Library, on the Dominican College campus, the Sister Catherine Howard Food Pantry will serve any students who need food assistance.

The Sister Catherine Howard Food Pantry was dedicated in honor of the former Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt President, who passed away in November 2018.

During the opening and blessing, Sister Mary Eileen O’Brien spoke about Sister Catherine “Cathy” and her dedication, kindness, and selflessness.

“When Dean Burke told me of the desire of the students’ life staff to name this project in honor of a Dominican Sister, I immediately thought of someone.

How delighted I was, when the person I was thinking of, and the person the staff members recommended was one and the same, Sister Cathy Howard.

Sister Cathy’s full-time involvement in the College was too brief but powerful! However, her commitment to its ideals was much longer and ran deep.

Cathy Howard was a joyful respectful servant-leader. We know that this food pantry will continue this joyful respectful service to others.”

The Sisters of Saint Dominic have supported the Sister Catherine Howard Food Pantry with donations from several fundraisers.
