This week’s “Embracing Faith” article will focus on Embracing Faith through Advocacy.
“Commit to God whatever you do, and God will establish your plan.” -Proverbs 16:3
Sunday, May 22nd, marked the beginning of Laudato Si’ Week.
This annual observance recognizes the church’s mission to embrace integral ecology, promote the care of all creation, as well as celebrate the 7th anniversary of Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical, Laudato Si’. (1)
During Laudato Si’ Week, supporters and advocates hope that the 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide will unite to bring the Laudato Si’ Action Platform to life and solve the global climate emergency and ecological crisis. (1)
The 2022 theme of Laudato Si’ Week is “Listening and Journeying Together,” which was inspired by Pope Francis’ quote, “Bringing the human family together to protect our common home.” (1)
Furthermore, religious organizations, including the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, are hopeful that Laudato Si’ Week will inspire individuals to better care for the most vulnerable and learn more about biodiversity, responding to the cry of the poor, divestment, education, and eco-spirituality. Along with bringing Laudato Si’ to life, the Sisters of Saint Dominic have been active in promoting and implementing the Laudato Si’ Action Platform.
In an episode of the Hearts Afire Podcast, Blauvelt Dominican Associate Ellen Nash discussed Laudato Si’.
Ellen explained, “We’ve been gifted with an opportunity to see so much of what we have valued and worked for over the years, being promoted now by the Vatican in the global church. This will make it easier to promote our concerns for racial, economic, social, and environmental justice.”
