In Memoriam - Edie Reimer

Updated: Feb 11, 2019

Edie Reimer, Associate, was a member of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York since December 1, 1990 when she took her Associate Commitment until her passing on May 30, 2015.

Edie Reimer, Associate

Mary 'Edie' Reimer was born in Manhattan.  She attended Pius X School of Liturgical Music which was at Manhattanville College. Years later when she tried out to sing at the Eucharistic Congress the director noticed how she rounded her lips and recognized that she had been trained by Fr. John Young, SJ, at Pius X.

She and Jack, who passed away in 1996, were the parents of three sons and a daughter.  They had moved to Orangeburg over 56 years ago and Edie was an active member of St. Catharine’s Parish in Blauvelt since 1958.  Edie was a member of the Parish Council, choir and prayer group, served as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, and following Jack’s death spent several years cooking for the priests in the rectory.  In 2012 Edie was named Woman of the Year by the parish.

Edie and all her children worked for a period of time at St. Dominic’s Convent, Home, or College.  In 1970 she worked in the Motherhouse Infirmary; then in Mental Health Services at St. Dominic’s Home.  From 1973 until recently Edie was a secretary at Dominican College in the Financial Aid Division, the Social Services Division, the Arts and Sciences Division, and the Occupational Therapy Department. Being an associate enabled her to be involved in prayer and good works.  It influenced her views of the current church and increased her awareness of peace and justice issues where she could participate in the works of the sisters.  Edie could always be seen crocheting beautiful afghans for the Associate’s Festival Booth. One of her favorite activities were her trips to Ireland to visit family and friends. Edie is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, and her sister, Sr. Eileen Treanor, PVBM.  She was also predeceased by her brother, Nicholas Treanor.  A Funeral Mass was held at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt.
