Sirach 3:2-6, 12-13; Colossians 3:12-21, Luke 2:22-40
But what of the struggling families in our world today, faced with divorce, abuse, war, natural disasters, violence, and addiction?
What of communities and governments, as well, seeking Peace?
It seems that the Letter of Paul to the Colossians in the 2nd reading contains the solution to the search for Peace.
If only we can follow the admonition of Paul to put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. If only we were able to bear with one another, and be willing to forgive grievances.
Then, if only we could all put on Love, embracing the giftedness and beauty of others and of all those who are part of our lives and all of creation, what Peace would flow!
While celebrating the season of Christmas, let us be filled with Gratitude - grateful for the coming of Jesus as our Gift of Peace. I believe that the practice of inviting the presence of Jesus into our daily lives will generate all of the above qualities mentioned in Paul’s letter, and will enable us to be true instruments of Peace wherever we may be.
Come, Lord Jesus, bless us and the whole world with Your Peace in the New Year!
