Scripture Reflection - June 5, 2016

1 Kings 17:17-24                         Galatians 1:11-19              Luke 7:11-17

Elijah’s merciful intervention blocked the soul’s departure of the widow’s son. Was he startled by her reference to unconfessed sins as the reason for her son’s decline? The prophet’s passionate prayer of intercession created life. Elijah, Jesus and Sister Faustina focused upon the unfathomable mercy of God. Elijah called upon it.

In Paul’s brief letter to the Galatians, he speaks of keeping his distance from the apostles, who lived with Jesus. His unique encounter with the Risen Lord cultivated his conversion. Paul learned that his relentless persecution was of Jesus Himself. His home was in the heart and the spiritual consciousness of each believer. In simplicity, they believed He was the Son of God, so they requested baptism. The son of the widow of Nain hears Jesus say, “Young man, I tell you to get up.” How could he hear the voice of the carpenter Joseph’s son? Naturally, with authority, Jesus redefined death and life. He gave his life to conquer death. The observers confronted a holy prophet who was empowered by Yahweh, the God of Israel. Abraham’s children rejoiced. Prayer Merciful Father, Your presence sustains Creation, the Catholic Church and all the faithful believers, in the Blessed Trinity. Please accept or thanks, our devotion and our service. Amen
