FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
July 5, 2009
Ezekiel 2:2-5; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Mark 6:1-6
Ezekiel and Paul have much in common. They both have been given the Spirit that they might proclaim God's message. They are not promised a life of ease, but are promised grace sufficient to the task of preaching the word of God. Paul considers all that has happened to him and all that will happen to him and knows that his strength comes from God.
As the words of Ezekiel and Paul were not always accepted by those who heard them, so too with Jesus. Because His background seems ordinary and His family local, those attending the synagogue where He taught will not accept His message. Their lack of faith prevents them from receiving future blessings. Jesus goes elsewhere.
We, likewise, must be open to the Spirit. We must be willing to proclaim the word of God when it is easy and when it is difficult. We must be willing to speak against injustice of all kinds. We must model charity in all we do. We must act fearlessly, knowing our strength comes from God.
Prayer:
Loving God, fill me with Your Spirit. Give me a clear mind, a loving heart and the courage to do Your will in all things. Give me Faith and love strong enough to cast out all fear. Amen.Sr. Monica Paul Fraser, OP
