Reflections on Body of Christ Sunday
May 25th, 2008
The Sunday is Corpus Christi Sunday. The association of God's sacramental presence in the common commodity of bread is particularly poignant as we pause and consider the food crisis - the Bread shortage - faced by millions in our global family today. What is the relationship of God to bread? How do we understand God's presence as well as God's absence when bread is no longer accessible?
"Take this and eat, all of you. This is my body." What meaning and impact do these words have for us as we reflect on the lives of our starving brothers and sisters in Haiti, Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Ethiopia ?
Who is the Body of Christ, where is the body of Christ in a global context where food is scarce?
What is the challenge and the commission of 'communion' as we receive the body of Christ this Corpus Christi Sunday?
