FOURTH SUDAY OF EASTER
April 13, 2008
ACTS 2:14,36-41; 1 PETER 2:20-25; JOHN 10:1-10

Today's media keep the horrors of society before us: the tragic events in Iraq; the growing concern over a declining economy; disregard for human rights; abandonment of moral values; violence, poverty…all disheartening situations. So we pray - and hear the Risen Jesus promise hope and an abundant life to all who are faithful to Him. Faithfulness - the heart of the matter.

As Peter experienced, it is not always easy to be the faithful follower of Jesus. Our personality and the issues at hand sometimes get in the way, cause us to react inappropriately and prevent us from being faithful to our Creator. Patience and perseverance are key to faithfulness, as is the courage of the heart to respond.

Today's responsorial psalm speaks to the abundance Jesus promised - the Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want. Perhaps we need to reflect on what the abundance means at this time in our life.

Good Shepherd, hear our prayer. Grant us the graces we need to deepen our relationship with you and the strength and opportunity to aid those in need.
