SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
January 17, 2010

Isaiah 62:1-5 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
John 2:1-11

"God has called us through the Gospel to possess the glory of Jesus..."

Today's readings are a joyful reminder that our God never stops giving to us. In our first reading, we are called God's delight and told that our God rejoices in each of us. We are said to be a glorious crown in the hand of our God. As we transition to Paul's letter to the Corinthians, we see the abundance of gifts that we are given by the Spirit of God. Each person receives different spiritual gifts according to the Spirit. All of these gifts are signs of God's great love for us as human beings made in God's likeness. The generosity of God never stops and we are transformed by God's goodness to us.

God's generosity is also seen at the wedding of Cana where the human and the mystery of the divine happen at this celebration of life. Weddings connote times of live, compassion, and unity. It is here that we experience the mystery of the divine .We experience what Jesus has in store for us, not only at the Eucharistic table but we see through the abundance of the wine provided at the feast that God has such abundance waiting for us as we go through the ordinary events of every day.

During the wedding of Cana, Jesus' words transform the ordinary into the extraordinary (water into wine).

How have Jesus' words changed my life? Do I recognize…

    a) … that I am a precious jewel created by God?
    b) …that I am precious and held in God's hand?
    c) … all the gifts I have been given?
    d) … the abundance of love that God has for me?

The answer to some of these questions can be seen in the words of today's Responsorial Psalm: "Proclaim His marvelous deeds to all the nations." Should not each of us return the love of our God by so doing?

We are told by John that Jesus' disciples began to believe in him because of the signs that Jesus worked at Cana.

LET US PRAY
Dear Jesus, grant me the strength and courage to believe in your words and to appreciate the gifts I have been given. Enable me to share these gifts with others as you did. Make me one with you in peace and love. Amen.
